Welcome to the Coconino County Master Gardeners Association

The Coconino Master Gardener Association began in 2009 to create a corps of well-informed volunteers, and to deliver quality horticultural education programs adapted to our regional high elevation environment. The association provides support for Master Gardener graduates and volunteers as well as continuing education and opportunities to participate in community programs that increase the visibility and participation in the Master Gardener Program.

Community Garden Plot

In partnership with the City of Flagstaff’s Sustainability Program, Terra BIRDS manages four community gardens:
  • Bonito Street Community Garden - Downtown on the corner of Bonito and Elm. Individual and group plots are available.
  • Izabel Street Community Garden - Sunnyside neighborhood north of the skate park on Izabel.
  • O'Leary Street Community Garden - Near NAU just south of the Springhill Baptist Church. Individual and group plots are available.
  • Hebets Community Garden - Along the FUTS trail in Coconino Estates just off Crescent Drive. Hebets is managed as a permaculture food forest. No individual plots are available.
Things to Know:
  • Plots are $65 per year.  Limited full and half scholarships available for those with demonstrated financial need.  Please inquire.
  • Sign-up for the 2020 growing season has begun. All gardeners will need to complete an application and a waiver. (Note: If you are a new gardener, please inquire before submitting your paperwork and ask to be put on the New Gardener email list. Submission of paperwork is not a guarantee that you be assigned a plot.)
  • Returning gardeners must have turned in completed paperwork and paid for their plot by April 24th.  If you are a returning gardener that has not submitted paperwork and paid for your fee yet, your plot has been released for rental to other interested gardeners. You may inquire to see if your plot is still available.
  • New gardeners may be placed on a waiting list if there are no immediate openings.
Thanks for your interest in community gardening! We hope to see you in the garden!

Greetings From TerraBirds

Ponderosa High School Greenhouses/Garden
Terra Birds Hone

Terra BIRDS wishes to thank and recognize the partners and supporters who help us in our mission.

Since 2012, Terra BIRDS grew from a part-time staff of two and just a few school garden projects, to a staff of five and a rotating crew of paid youth interns, with thousands of youth and community members in garden and stewardship projects all over Flagstaff.  The goal of these projects is to promote health and wellness, work and life skills, and hands-on education for young people; to create and sustain beautiful, ecologically healthy, accessible natural environments in our urban setting; and to collaborate in Northern Arizona's community-wide vision of sustainability (environmental, economic, and social).  Please read through the following Partners and Supporters list, and know that there is a story connected to each of these names.  Special acknowledgement goes out to the Coconino County Accommodation School District, providing Terra BIRDS with a home at Ponderosa High School.  Please seek information about these entities, support them, and know that they are partners in improving lives and making Flagstaff a better community.

Flagstaff Foodlink will again be hosting a Backyard Gardener Booth at the Flagstaff Community Farmer's Market. Have extra veggies that you would like to sell? Find us as at the market, sell your produce, and hang out with fellow growers. The idea is to spread the word that you can grow food in Flagstaff, despite our climate, and make a little extra cash on the side, and not have to bring your own tent and table. We hope to be there every weekend of the season. Please get in touch with Foodlink if you are interested in participating, flagstafffoodlink@gmail.com.
-There will be a film screening of Food Chains as part of Speak Up at Firecreek on Monday May 4th at 5:00 p.m. http://www.foodchainsfilm.com/#the-film

-Local First will be hosting the next Balle Conference in Phoenix in June, it will includes sessions about food systems, there is still plenty of time to register, to learn more, go to: https://bealocalist.org/2015-balle-conference
