Native Plant Society Meeting

The Art and Science of Pollinator Habitat Design
With Molly McCormick and Kate Watters

Molly will discuss her master's thesis research, which investigated pollinator habitat design in arid ecosystems. The study took place in Camp Verde, where pollinator habitat was installed at Shield Ranch and flower visitation was observed. For practitioners and land managers looking to restore pollination systems in arid ecosystems, the results of this study suggest that installing species-rich and florally-abundant habitat islands that persist over time should be a priority. In addition, increasing the quality of forage at a restoration site and the immediate surrounding area can be accomplished by installing habitat islands.

Kate will discuss seed collection and plant propagation efforts of key pollinator species that the Verde Native Seed Cooperative is undertaking and inspire you to take all you have seen and learned and go out and create pollinator habitat.

Arizona Native Plant Society talks are free and open to the public.
