Community Garden Plot Application

 

Community Garden Plot Applications are now open Plot applications for Bonito, Hal Jensen, and Southside Community Gardens are open. Returning gardeners can renew their plots before new applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given to those without home growing space or who qualify for SNAP. Annual plot fees are $65, covering water, infrastructure, and resources. Need assistance? Full and half scholarships are available—just apply online! Community Garden Plot

In partnership with the City of Flagstaff’s Sustainability Program, Terra BIRDS manages four community gardens:

• Bonito Street Community Garden - Downtown on the corner of Bonito and Elm. Individual and group plots are available.
• Izabel Street Community Garden - Sunnyside neighborhood north of the skate park on Izabel.
• O'Leary Street Community Garden - Near NAU just south of the Springhill Baptist Church. Individual and group plots are available.
• Hebets Community Garden - Along the FUTS trail in Coconino Estates just off Crescent Drive. Hebets is managed as a permaculture food forest. No individual plots are available.

Things to Know:

• Plots are $65 per year.  Limited full and half scholarships available for those with demonstrated financial need.  Please inquire.
• Sign-up for the 2020 growing season has begun. All gardeners will need to complete an application and a waiver. (Note: If you are a new gardener, please inquire before submitting your paperwork and ask to be put on the New Gardener email list. Submission of paperwork is not a guarantee that you be assigned a plot.)
• Returning gardeners must have turned in completed paperwork and paid for their plot by April 24th.  If you are a returning gardener that has not submitted paperwork and paid for your fee yet, your plot has been released for rental to other interested gardeners. You may inquire to see if your plot is still available.
• New gardeners may be placed on a waiting list if there are no immediate openings.

New Community Garden in Sunnyside!!

Are you interested in growing your own fresh vegetables this summer in the Sunnyside Neighborhood? Have you always wanted to garden but just don’t have the yard space? Are you new to gardening and want a little help and support from the community? Well come on down to the new community garden on Izabel Street!

Located on public property on Izabel Street, just north of the BMX/skate park, this garden includes individual/family gardening plots, kids gardening beds, raised beds, permaculture design, composting, a storage shed, tools, and rainwater harvesting. This garden is great for individuals or families looking for a place to grow their own food this summer, or a school or any other group looking to take on a great summer project.

A small seasonal fee ($30) will be collected from the gardeners that will provide water, insurance, tools and building materials. Gardeners can also take part in monthly garden parties, workshops and garden maintenance activities.

Space is limited and plots will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Our first organizational meeting will be Sunday, May 30th, at 4pm, so if you are interested or need any further information, please contact the garden coordinator as soon as possible.
