Urban Forestry Safety for Tree Workers and the importance of Right Tree Right Place Agenda

9:00am Arizona Public Service (APS) Forestry Basics and Safety (60 minutes)
During this session we will review:

•  High Level Hardware ID: This is a brief description of some basic hardware on the poles and what they do and can potentially do.
• Electrical Safety – OSHA
• Right Tree Right Place
• Tree Worker Safety
• APS Safety procedures

10:00am Fire Mitigation & Defensible Space (30 minutes)
We will discuss the hazard presented to property by a wildfire in Northern Arizona forested towns and wildfire mitigation work to increase safety and reduce the risk to life and property and additional tree loss.
10:30am Break (10 minutes)
10:40am Safety Trailer Demo Q & A, (30 minutes)
After watching a demonstration by an Arizona Public Service lineman that shows the electrical impact on the human body, the group will be led in a conversation around prevention and response. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkKE1Rc_djE)  We will provide a high-level overview of OSHA electrical safety pertaining to tree workers
11:10am Nurseries/Landscaping, (30 minutes)
We will review what trees the Nurseries/Landscaping Companies are planting under and next to that power lines, what are the best plants and trees to be planting under and around the lines, and how to work with the utility companies to get the best outcome for their customer while still following the guild lines associated with power lines. How they are addressing power lines in their work plan and how to make a plan before they start a project to ensure they are planting safely and maintaining the existing landscaping and tree care to be in compliance and addressing power line safety at their job.
11:40am Lunch (30 minutes)
12:10pm City of Flagstaff Compliance for vegetation planting (30 minutes)
The city will present the policies around Easement and utility Ride Of Way within the city, and issues of vegetation within the ROW, and what can APS (utility), Tree companies,  and landscape companies do within them (in regards to working within the), and easement and ROW expectation from the city.
12:40pm Questions and Answers and program wrap-up with CEU signup
