Coconino Master Gardener Meeting Minutes

Welcome and announcements – Jim Mast
·         Facebook page is up – thanks to Tammy Valdovino
·         Jackie passed a clipboard with Home Show volunteer sign-ups on it

Introduction of Speakers – Loni Shapiro

Education:  Tips for Starting Seeds – Stephen Scott/Terroir Seeds

Refreshments provided by Loni Shapiro, Betty Marcus and Laurel Grubbs

Business Meeting – Jim Mast
·         Volunteer Support – Crys Wells
o   February:  28 reporting 121 volunteer hours, 50.75 education hours
o   Year to date:  299.25 volunteer hours and 90.25 education hours
·         MG Coordinator Happenings - Hattie Braun
o   Both the Page and the Flagstaff master gardener classes are going well
o   In 2017 there will be an advanced master gardener class offered in Clarkdale in place of a full conference
·         Home show April 8 – 10, 2016 – Loni Shapiro and Jackie Clark
o    Loni has lined up 15 speakers
o   Jackie still has volunteer slots to fill
·         Financial report – Sue Madden
o   Cash on hand            $8,786.74

o   Total                             $8,844.91

Committee Reports:
·         FundraisingSherline Alexander
o   Thanks to Jillian Thomas for the books offered as raffle prizes
o   Michelle Kathey will chair the 2017 calendar production
o   Summer garden tours – tentative date is July 30
o   Fall cleanup – we are looking for a chair for this fundraiser
o Garden sale – Michelle Kathey is organizing the sale for April 30
·         Continuing Education – Loni Shapiro
o   April 14:  Greenhouse Gardening – Jim Mast with a fieldtrip to his greenhouse the following Saturday (bring chair and food!)
o   Spring Arboretum plant sale – May 29
o   May:  Self-watering Containers – Jackie Clark
o   June:  Growing Roses at 7,000 Feet – Carol Chicci
o   July:  The Gardens of Paris/France – Molly Larsen; Coconino County Fair preparation
o  August:  Edible Local Native Plants – Sheila Murray

o   Applications are due May 31
o   Seed library is well stocked; there is a workday every 4th Thursday
o   Seed swap is March 26 at the extension office
o   Brown bag meeting – March 24 about the seed library
·         Community Markets – Andrea Guerrette
o   Table at Warner’s on 3 days; first date April 23
o   Table dates will be set up at Violas
o   Pansy festival at Violas on April 8
New business
·         Milkweed project – Hattie reports that the project will be looking for 7 gardeners to participate in the experiment – more information to follow as it becomes available
·         There will be an extern for the bus stop garden this summer
