Riordan Workdays for the Remainder of the Year

Hi everyone,

Below is listed the remaining work days scheduled for the Riordan Gardens for this year.  We have had a great year and accomplished a lot. Thanks for all your dedicated work. Please mark your calendars for those days that you can join us.  

The Riordan has shovels and rakes that we can use but if a large number of us turns out on a work day there is not enough for all of us so please bring your shovel and rake plus your clippers and any other tools (with your names written on them) you think you may need. Also, don't forget your water bottle, a snack and your gloves.  I will bring a large container of ice water to refill your water bottles when needed through out the day.  All the work days start at 9:00 and we will work until 1:30 or so. However, if you can't come for the full time you can come and help for however much time you can donate between 9 and 1:30.


Saturday, September 1, 2012: 

Dig Lilac bushes roots in several places to make smaller clumps, some cleaning and pruning on bushes and removel of dead branches that can be reached on some of the smaller trees.

Friday, September 7, 2012:  

Clean around buildings (House and Visitors Center) by removing wild bushes and roses that have come up where they don't belong and trimming of plants on both sides of the visitors center.

Friday, September 14, 2012:  

We will clean the large yucca bed and the yellow pioneer rose section. If you have eye protector glasses please bring them to use around the yuccas.


Friday, September 28, 2012: 

The large flower bed by the back door will be totally reworked and some of the plants there now will be moved to the front courtyard and front butterfly garden area.


Friday, October 12, 2012:  

We will be cutting perennials to the ground and preparing the flower gardens and vegetable garden for the winter.  

Saturday, October 20, 2012:  

We will be raking leaves on the grass areas and removing pine needles out of the areas marked by numbers as point of interest for visitors. Year before last it snowed the day after we completed this task so we are hoping we beat the snow again this year.
